The White Screen of Death.

This is what sucks.

~I couldn’t sleep last night. Between the wind, the sound of dry leaves crackling and squirrels in the trees kept me up thinking someone was in my backyard, either seeking shelter or trying to break in and murder me. I couldn’t help it; my yard looks like Camp Crystal Lake.

~I have friends with sick parents. And at the exact moment I typed those words, the wind outside kicked up in a mild flurry. It’s January, and it’s 79 degrees at 11:00am. It’s Saturday weather. Football weather.

~I left my house at noon to go teach. On my way I passed the Forest Lawn Mortuary. There was a line of cars with their headlights on, all headed toward the graveyard.

~It’s not all doom and gloom. It sucks walking into the bathroom after a shower, not watching where you’re stepping and getting one sock wet. Just one. ‘Cuz then you have to decide to leave the one wet sock on, or make the effort to find a matching one or a whole other pair.

~It sucks when you have a $20 dollar bill and it ends up being fake. It sucks when you want an ubër-strong cup of coffee in the morning and all you have is decaffeinated green tea, but at least I found a perfect place for an umlaut. And it sucks when you can’t sleep.

~It doesn’t suck when your husband pairs up a pile of clean socks for you when he folds the laundry.

~For the fifth time in the last month, this is what I’ve seen as a result of stupid faith in technology and loading the wrong thing onto my blog. And I’m pissed. I got it back after hours on the phone with tech support.

It sucks. There’s a name for it: the white screen of death. I wish I had come up with it.
