365 Days of Whatever

I just came across a website on happiness quotes for every day of the year. As expected, some were… what’s the word… generic? Vapid? Meaningless? I had to keep looking. Had to. Some were cool. Some were way out of date. One read “daily quote of the day.” OK.

The quote of the day from goodreads.com: “A single person is missing for you, and the whole world is empty.” ~Joan Didion, The Year of Magical Thinking. I have no idea what that’s supposed to mean. Actually, I do, but it sounds needy.

From the Facebook page Best Quotes of the Day: “Self confidence is the most attractive quality a person can have. How can anyone see how awesome you are if you can’t see it yourself?” 351 awesome people liked it.

From dailyinspirationalquotes.in: “I respect a person that respects me when I’m not around.” How would you know?

From mydailyinsights.com: “It’s not your job to like me—it’s mine.” ~Byron Kate. Doesn’t get more self-helpy or irritating than that.

From eduro.com: “Every man dies, but not every man really lives.” ~William Wallace. True. Trite, but true.

From superkids.com: “Religion is the opiate of the masses.” ~Karl Marx, Critique of the Hegelian Philosophy of Right, 1844. Finally one that makes sense.

From links2love.com: “I think we dream so we don’t have to be apart so long. If we’re in each other’s dreams, we can be together all the time.” ~Hobbes. Kill me.

From socksonanoctopus.com: Politeness, n. The most acceptable hypocrisy. ~Ambrose Bierce, The Devil’s Dictionary (1911). Yup. And what is The Devil’s Dictionary? I might have to look that up.
