More 100 Best Party Songs
…As promised in the last post 100 Best Party Songs (which only has 1-10, half of which suck), here’s 11-20. And hey, it’s not my list, I’m talking about someone else’s list.
20. “Rock With You” by Michael Jackson (1979). One of the best songs ever. It just makes you wanna pull some kind of fly groove move as you’re walking along. Love it. Masterpiece.
19. “Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)” by Beyoncé (2008). I could easily go the rest of my life without hearing this song ever again. Friends, please never get engaged and play this song over and over while I’m in the car with you. I will fucking jump out.
18. “Don’t You Want Me” by The Human League (1981). I know I have an especially ridiculous fondness for 80’s music, and you would too if you were in high school when The Human League was big. Genius.
17. “1 Thing” by Amerie (2005). This is what you call a “one-hit wonder.” And I don’t love it.
16. “Good Times” by Chic (1979). Soooo gooood. I might have to boogie down with the disco today. And one of my favorite songs from later in the same era sampled it, “Rappers Delight” from the Sugarhill Gang.
15. “No Diggity” by Blackstreet featuring Dr Dre and Queen Pen (1996). Mmmm-mmm. That’s all. Mmmm-mmm. That’s all I might say. Mmmm-mmm. For the rest of the day. Mmmm-mmm.
14. “Crazy in Love” by Beyoncé (2003). I changed my mind. This is the riff that might end up consuming the rest of my day. Dammit.
Uh oh, uh oh, uh oh, oh no no
Uh oh, uh oh, uh oh, oh no no
Uh oh, uh oh, uh oh, oh no no
Uh oh, uh oh, uh oh, oh no no
Kill me.
13. “Push It” by Salt-N-Pepa (1987). Forget what I said. It’s all about oooh, baby baby, baby, baby, oooh, baby baby, baby, baby. Get up on this! And best use of an 80’s song in a commercial ever, for Geico Insurance, with Salt, Pepa and Spinderella. So awesome.
12. “I Feel Love” by Donna Summer (1977). Why do people think disco sucks? Disco rules. So does Donna Summer. I missed my decade. Such a good, trance-y song.
11. “You Can Call Me Al” by Paul Simon (1986). We’ll see, but I’m gonna go out on a limb and say this is probably the silliest song on this list. Which doesn’t mean it’s not a great party song. But it’s silly. The video is silly. Chevy Chase is silly. Writing about these songs is silly.
